Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Day is observed annually on 27 June to honour the role that the MSME sector plays in the economy and in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To mark this auspicious occasion, Business Assistance Fiji (BAF) organized the World MSMEs Day celebration on Tuesday, 27 June 2023.
The theme for this year’s World MSMEs Day was “Youth and Women Entrepreneurship and Improving Supply Chain”.
The celebration was held at the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF) in Suva, and Mr. Kameli Batiweti, CEO of FCEF, was the chief guest.
Mr. Batiweti acknowledged the MSME owners for their contribution towards Fiji’s economy and encouraged youths and women to engage in the business sector, fostering further development and advancement in our country.
BAF, Board Director, Mr. Vinay Narsey provided an overview of the organization and activities under BAF.
Mr. Narsey also emphasized that with adequate support, MSMEs possess the potential to transform economies, foster job creation, and promote equitable economic growth.
Following the celebration, BAF held a training session for entrepreneurs present where Fiji Revenue and Customs Services (FRCS), Vodafone Fiji Vitikart, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), FCEF, and Fiji Development Bank (FDB) provided information that could assist them in operating their business successfully.
Business Service Manager, Mr. Deepak Prasad also explained the Business Link Pacific (BLP) Business Support Grant application procedure to the participants.
During the session, individuals were offered details on the development of Facebook and the BLP Business Support Grant by BAF. Together with Consumer Council of Fiji providing guidance on managing debt, and Vodafone Vitikart gave instructions on how to register for the e-commerce platform.
