Climate Change Innovation Training – Advanced Level – Suva, Labasa and Nadi.

Business Assistance Fiji (BAF), Business Link Pacific (BLP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are working together to increase the availability of local business advisors offering climate services to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Fiji.

Last week, BAF and BLP Business Advisory Service Providers (BASPs) in Central, Northern and Western divisions participated in the Climate Change Innovation Training – Advanced Level. This training is a follow-up to the Green Innovation Training conducted in April, this year.

Through this training, local business advisors aim to broaden their services to MSMEs by incorporating new areas such as climate mitigation, adaptation, access to green finance, and green growth.

The facilitator of the training was BLP Consultant and Climate Change Advisor, Lili Camacho.

During the training, the participants learned how to use BLP’s online climate tools to assess and create plans for assisting their SME clients. They reviewed key concepts from the April training and explored the uses and question types for tools like the Climate Action Sensor, In-Depth Diagnostic, and Risk and Opportunity Worksheet.

The participants also learned how to create a toolkit for solving SME challenges in Fiji’s main economic sectors through collaborative efforts and insights from other sector toolkits.

Additionally, the participants learned how to prepare a client strategy and application for climate financing and learned how to become a BLP Climate Advisor, understanding available climate-related service areas and the assessment questions they will encounter.

The training is designed by BLP and funded by the Asian Development Bank, aimed to equip business advisors with practical tools to assess and guide MSMEs in developing new products and services while supporting MSME owners in accessing finance for their projects.

The training in Suva was held on Tuesday, 18 June 2024 at the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) training room.

The training in Labasa was held on Wednesday, 19 June 2024 at the

Labasa Co-operative Department Conference Room at Ratu Raiobe Building Neasea.

The training in Nadi was held on Friday, 21 June 2024 at the Capricorn Hotel.
