Climate Finance for Financial Institution’s Training

Eleven officials from Merchant Finance, Sugarcane Growers Funds, Fiji Development Bank and HFC Bank and Kontiki Finance attended the one-day Climate Finance for Financial Institutions Training.

The training was held at the Fiji Development (FDB) training room in Suva on Monday, 17 June 2024.

This training was conducted by Business Assistance Fiji (BAF) in partnership with Business Link Pacific (BLP) and Asian Development Bank (ADB).

BLP Consultant and Climate Change Advisor, Lili Camacho facilitated the training.

During the training, participants learned the importance of climate financing and understood the business and social inclusion cases for financial institutions to develop climate financing products. Additionally, they learned the importance of climate finance in the Fiji’s context.

Under the topic “Build Your Institution’s Climate-Focused Product,” participants learned how to create inclusive impact, understand their customers’ financial needs, and identify market opportunities by combining impact, customer personas, and climate finance categories.

They also learned to evaluate an SME’s climate application and identify simple ways to monitor and report on disbursement and success.

Additionally, participants learned about the importance of common climate finance products, gaining an understanding of their relevance and application in promoting sustainable development and environmental responsibility.

The participants went through some case studies and participated in group discussions.
