Twenty-six Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from the Western Division participated in the “Level Up Your Business with AI, Digital Tools, and Cybersecurity Workshop,” held at the Lautoka City Council (Chamber Hall) on Wednesday, 26 June 2024.

The workshop was conducted by Business Assistance Fiji (BAF) in collaboration with VentureWell and Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST).

The aim of the workshop was for SMEs to understand how AI tools could streamline business communications and content generation, implement essential cybersecurity measures to protect their business, discover collaborative digital tools for efficient teamwork, and automate repetitive tasks to optimize business processes.

The workshop was facilitated by the Counterpoint Group team, a marketing agency based in Nadi.

During the one-day workshop, participants learned about ChatGPT and Gemini, advanced AI tools capable of content generation for social media, blogs, and email templates, facilitating customer service interactions, supporting research and idea generation, and demonstrating their applications live.

Participants also gained insights into Cybersecurity Essentials, including common threats faced by small businesses, the significance of SSL certificates and CAPTCHA, the implementation of strong password policies Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), the importance of regular data backups, and best practices for device management.

Additionally, participants learned about Workplace Collaboration Tools, including an overview of platforms like Google Workspace, focusing on key features such as email, chat, shared drives, and collaborative workspaces. They also explored best practices for team communication and project management and engaged in a hands-on activity involving setting up a shared project workspace to enhance collaborative efforts within their teams.

The participants also went through the topic “Process Automation for Efficiency”, where they learned to identify suitable areas within their business for automation. They were introduced to basic automation tools and gained practical skills in setting up simple automation workflows, such as connecting lead capture forms directly to a database, thereby optimizing processes and enhancing operational efficiency.
