Praveen Anand’s Passion to Support MSMEs

With over 35 years of experience in the Financial Service Industry, Mr Praveen Anand has a passion for supporting Micro, Small, and Medium (MSMEs) in Fiji.

Mr Anand, the owner of Small Medium Enterprise Solutions, embarked on his entrepreneurial journey in 2019, establishing an accounting firm specializing in accounting, taxation, and business advisory services in Tavua and across Fiji.

With a rich background in this field, Mr Anand has previously worked for ANZ Bank, Westpac Bank, and Vatukoula Gold Mines. His involvement with the National Centre for Small and Micro Enterprise Development (NCSMED) further fueled his dedication to nurturing rural SMEs, where he served as a mentor, guiding and empowering budding entrepreneurs.

Inspired by his family’s entrepreneurial spirit, Mr Anand envisioned a holistic approach to his accounting firm, not just focusing on financial services but also offering business mentoring, monitoring, and training.

In 2021, Mr Anand joined Business Link Pacific (BLP) and Business Assistance Fiji (BAF) as a Business Service Advisory Provider (BASP), extending his reach to micro-enterprises. Through BLP and BAF, Mr. Anand can offer services to MSMEs that previously couldn’t afford an accountant to get their financials prepared.

“Through BLP and BAF’s assistance, I can reach out to the micro-enterprises. Having said this, most of the business advisory services that I have provided through BLP/BAF are to the MSMEs who could not afford to get their financials prepared,” he said.

Mr Anand strongly encourages MSMEs to practice good financial management and keep accurate records to help them understand their business costs better.

In 2023, he assisted BAF in conducting Basic Business Training, particularly targeting cane farmers, to impart essential business skills such as registration procedures, record-keeping, and cost management. He believes that equipping MSMEs with these fundamental skills is vital for their long-term success and eligibility for financial assistance programs.

He also assisted in conducting an E-commerce training for MSMEs in Tavua.

Mr Anand’s partnership with BLP and BAF has not only expanded his business reach but also facilitated MSMEs’ access to crucial financial services and support.

His dedication to empowering small businesses reflects a commitment to fostering economic growth and resilience within local communities.
